Central Banks Decide on Rates

Key central banks are set to announce their interest rate decisions this week, with the Bank of Japan (BOJ), the Bank of England (BOE), and the Federal Reserve (FED) taking centre stage.

Bank of Japan

The Bank of Japan (BoJ) will announce its next interest rate decision after its two-day monetary policy meeting on 16–17 June. The official announcement is expected on Tuesday, 17 June (late morning to early afternoon Japan Standard Time).

While some financial calendars list the decision as occurring on 16 June at 03:00 GMT, the most widely accepted and official schedule indicates a release on 17 June, following the conclusion of the meeting. The BoJ’s current short-term policy rate stands at 0.5%.

Bank of England

The next Bank of England (BoE) interest rate decision is scheduled for Thursday, 19 June, with the announcement expected at midday UK time.

The Bank Rate currently stands at 4.25%, following a 25 basis point cut in May 2025. Markets widely expect the BoE to hold rates steady in June, with the next potential cut forecast for August, and possibly another in November, subject to incoming economic data and the trajectory of inflation.

Federal Reserve

The next interest rate decision from the US Federal Reserve (Fed) is scheduled for Wednesday, 18 June (6:00 PM UTC).

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is widely expected to leave the federal funds rate unchanged, maintaining the current target range of 4.25% to 4.50%. This meeting will also feature the release of the Fed’s Summary of Economic Projections, offering updated insights into policymakers’ expectations for interest rates, growth, inflation, and employment.

Moreover, Fed Chair Jerome Powell is set to hold a press conference to discuss the decision and outlook in more detail. (Source: Investopedia)
